The Department of International Studies and Social Sciences offers the following Master Programs:

 

Asian Studies

Interested in an exciting international career? Apply to our Master’s Program in Asian Studies! This interdisciplinary program aims to provide you with an advanced understanding of contemporary issues in East and South-East Asia so that you will have the knowledge and concrete skills necessary to understand and assess social, cultural, economic and political developments in the region.

 

Cultural Criminology

The Master’s program in Cultural Criminology focuses on crime, deviations and social control through study of how cultural norms, representations and conceptions function in society from the perspectives of individuals and of society. Issues concerning human actions and interactions as well as of collective notions of morality/immorality and normality/abnormality are of key interest. Further topics of study include which social phenomena are defined as deviant and how they are produced and reproduced.

 

Development Studies

This program is an interdisciplinary program in social sciences, which deals with key issues in development as well as different theoretical perspectives to increase your understanding of the preconditions for and content of development. The objective of the program is to provide you with the background knowledge and concrete skills to understand, assess and work in development-related fields, whether in direct poverty reduction or in other aspects of social and institutional development.

 

European Affairs 

We offer a unique combination of courses, covering such topics as European governance and negotiations, EU law, and Europe in global affairs. You will become part of a dynamic and international student group taught by highly-trained teachers who also are active researchers in their own fields of expertise. The teachers use modern teaching strategies and assessment techniques and many have experience of working with European integration issues as practitioners.

 

Global Studies

This program is an interdisciplinary social science master’s program which will give you a knowledge of globalization, conflict and social change. You will gain an understanding of theories connected to processes of globalization and transformation, which are analyzed through various disciplinary frameworks. The program presents major cultural, economic, political and socio-psychological theories and concepts which will make you able to make informed and comparative analyses of how globalization is connected to conflict and social change.

 

Human Ecology – Culture, Power and Sustainability 

The Master’s Program Human Ecology: Culture, Power, and Sustainability (CPS) is aimed at students who wish to gain advanced competence in Human Ecology. Examples of professions include education, journalism, and environmental management, work in government and international agencies and development aid. The program also prepares students for postgraduate studies.

 

Human Geography 

The Master’s program in Human Geography is a two-year international program focusing on cultural, economic, social and political aspects of human activities from distinctly geographical perspectives. Why do uneven geographies between people, neighborhoods, cities, regions and countries develop? How do processes of globalization and localization affect firms and industries, people and places? What drives geographical changes – and are the geographies of such change socially and environmentally just? What can governments, companies, NGOs, activists and other actors at all scales do to address the big challenges of our time? These are the kind of questions human geographers ask and address.

 

International Development and Management 

LUMID is a two-year interdisciplinary program focusing on international development and management.

The program offers students a unique combination of theoretical knowledge and applied research methods and management skills pertaining to a range of development areas and challenges. These different aspects of international development research and practice are being integrated through program courses, student internships with international organizations, field work research, and development practitioner seminars. Our students spend the first academic year of the program on campus while pursuing their internships and field work in developing contexts during the second year.

 

Media and Communication Studies

The focus of this international Master’s program is to offer a critical approach to contemporary social, political and cultural issues in media and communications. We provide up-to-date engagement with key issues, theories and problems in media engagement, democracy and cultural citizenship, media industries and creativity, gender, health and society, audiences, popular culture and everyday life. Courses tackle contemporary debates about knowledge, power and social relations in national and transnational media environments.

 

 

Middle Eastern Studies 

The interdisciplinary Master’s Program in Middle Eastern Studies aims to develop deeper knowledge about the Middle East of today. The program trains students in critical thinking and gives them the ability to apply this to current events and debates in and about the region. The program also aims to educate students in social sciences theories and various research methodologies, as well as provide opportunities for the application of methodological skills.

Social Studies of Gender

This program is an interdisciplinary program in social sciences. You will improve your ability to critically examine, evaluate and discuss the field’s most important theoretical perspectives and research results. You will be able to formulate and analyze interconnections between theory and practice concerning gender, class, ethnicity and sexuality.

 

Sociology 

The Master of Science in Sociology provides specialization in the scholarly approach that is fundamental to students aiming to pursue PhD studies and also is of considerable value for advanced work as a policy or operational officer in different kinds of organizations. Furthermore, the program provides the student with knowledge and skills to adapt to a changing working life and ability to contribute to development in society and working life.

 

Sociology of Law 

The Master’s Program in Sociology of Law will give you knowledge about social norms and the origin and application of laws, their effects and their functions. You will gain an understanding of the legal system’s possibilities, limitations and dependence on the surrounding community.

 

Strategic Communication 

The MSc in Strategic Communication is a two-year interdisciplinary Master’s program. The program provides theory, concepts and skills to operate and successfully work with strategic communication in international environments. You will learn how communication is central for organizations of various kinds and how communication can be understood and used to achieve strategic goals and to ensure sustainable organizations. The program provides students with an understanding of strategic communication and the closely related fields of organizational communication, public relations and brand communication. On completion of the program, our graduates have the necessary skills for a career in communication as well as for research.

 

Welfare Policies and Management

With a unique combination of perspectives from political science, social work, sociology and economics, this program provides you with a broad range of knowledge and skills intended for the management and administration of welfare services. The courses are based on a comparative approach, highlighting differences and similarities across countries, administrative levels and policy areas, including a European Union perspective.

About Program

 

The world is rapidly changing, thus offering new challenges for architecture. These challenges concern everything from densification of cities and sustainability to new technologies and how they affect the way we design and build. Lund University, located in the dynamic Copenhagen–Malmö region, is well known for its competence and knowledge, and offers superb resources for studying these matters in a broader context. The program combines best practice with advanced research, thus educating students to become highly skilled professionals who are competitive at an international level. Teaching contains both theoretical and hands-on projects aiming to find future-focused solutions to real-world issues. The program features international collaboration as well as locally active professionals. The process of working/learning consists of a mixture of workshops, critiques, tutorials with invited guests (both international and local) and longer projects that will be exhibited to a public audience.

The objectives of the Master’s program in Architecture are:

  • to offer a broad education in architecture with possible specialization within two main fields (see below)
  • to provide students with the knowledge and skills required to act successfully within a challenging future shaped by internationalization, change and emerging technologies
