About Great Plains College
Great Plains College is at the leading edge of Saskatchewan’s regional college system. The college is focused on meeting the needs of learners, employers and communities in western Saskatchewan. We are working to build stronger leaders, careers, partnerships and communities. Our decentralized campuses are located in Kindersley, Swift Current and Warman with additional programming at locations in Biggar, Maple Creek and Rosetown. Throughout our locations in western Saskatchewan, we offer a number of post-secondary certificate, diploma and degree programs as well as university courses, safety training, Adult Basic Education and English language training. The college strives to provide for the distinct needs of our service area by challenging everyone to continually build a responsive, innovated and results-orientated institution. As a result, Great Plains College was the first regional college in Saskatchewan to introduce a health and dental plan for its students and also proudly boasts one of the strongest scholarship programs in all of Canada.
Learn to function as a team member in home and special care. Through a combination of hands-on classroom learning and labs, you will receive clinical experience in home and long-term care settings. This program focuses on working with the elderly, but you will be prepared to work with clients of all ages.
Continuing care assistants may work in home care settings, long-term care facilities, private care homes, acute care facilities, integrated facilities, supportive housing or special needs classrooms. Most continuing care assistants work for the Saskatchewan Health Authority as part of a health care team under the supervision of registered nurses, registered psychiatric nurses and-or licensed practical nurses.
